THE 1959 CHEVROLET WINGED EXPRESS
By Performance West Group And Year One Inc.

POMONA, CA -- THE 1959 CHEVROLET WINGED EXPRESS by Performance West Group and Year One Inc. was awarded 1st in Class and Best Paint Truck at the 57th Annual Grand National Roadster Show, where it made its official debut.

The Winged Express is the red hot 1959 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery created by Performance West Group. The body has been fully restored and smothered in PPG Platinum Metallic by the artisans at Aero Collision & Fabrication, accented by a comprehensive array of Year One Inc. exterior and interior restoration parts and accessories.

The excitement begins the minute you spin the ignition key and awaken the Turn Key Engine Supply built 700 horsepower Chevrolet LS2 that’s equipped with a Kenne Bell Blowzilla 2.4 liter Twin Screw Supercharger and Intercooler, Air Flow Research aluminum cylinder heads and a Comp Cam. A Keisler Engineering T56 6 speed Tremec transmission provides the maximum in gearing, while the engine sings its siren song through a low restriction Magnaflow custom dual exhaust system. Insuring fade free stops from high speed are Stainless Steel Brakes Force 10 V8-8 Piston Calipers that work in conjunction with 15” slotted and ventilated rotors. Custom stainless steel brake and fuel lines were

crafted by Classic Tube while engine cooling is handled by a Raceware Aluminum Radiator. The in the weeds stance is provided by Air Ride Technologies, complemented by a one off set of custom 20” billet wheels by MC2, matched with BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDW ultra high performance tires.

Inside the Winged Express, Quiet Ride Solutions created the ultimate environment for the SONY Xplod audio and video entertainment system and custom interior that’s covered in Katzkin multi hued leather, all installed by Syndicate Automotive Concepts. And, just to be sure it’s always cool inside, the Winged Express is equipped with a Vintage Air System.

Add it all up and you’ve got the Chevrolet Winged Express. Armed with its ground pounding supercharged and intercooled engine, the Winged Express is complemented by a chassis equipped with just the right mix of components to harness its awesome power. The Winged Express may look deceptively stock, but it’s really a wolf in hiding under vintage sheet metal.

The Story

America, especially in the 1950’s was outrageous and rambunctious. Americans of the era were confident, bold and unstoppable. Everything was over the top, and the bar was continually set increasingly higher. When it came to our vehicles, we had unbridled passion for voluptuously shaped sheet metal and worshiped at the altar of horsepower. Big, bold and powerful was our style.

"I want it all," was, and still is another uniquely American attitude. To that end, we’ve taken a 1959 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery, a vehicle that has become the ultimate wagon, and infused it with a wide range of late model parts and accessories. The result is a wild new ride we call the “Winged Express.”

The Winged Express combines the best of both worlds: a distinctive body covered in Platinum Metallic paint, just the right amount of chrome, and the unforgettable 1959 Chevrolet rear wings. A supercharged and intercooled Chevrolet LS2 engine provides plenty of power, and is coupled to a thoroughly modern slick shifting six speed overdrive transmission. Under the massaged exterior, an Air Ride suspension insures a perfect stance, complemented by large diameter alloy wheels and low profile tires.

“Longer, lower and wider, was the mantra in Detroit in the 1950’s. It was an exciting decade, one heavily influenced by jet aircraft and rockets. And, most of all, the design 1959 Chevrolet was created under the direction of legendary Harley Earl. As the leader of General Motors Styling, the ‘59 Chevy set the benchmark for audacious American design with its distinctive wings, expansive hood and spacious interior.

No automotive enthusiast with a reverence for the unique would alter the exterior of a 1959 Chevrolet. So, with that thought in mind, the body of the Winged Express has been fully restored, and painted with PPG Automotive Finishes Platinum Metallic. Adding emphasis to the longer, lower look of the ’59 Chevy is an in

the weeds stance that further accentuates its sleek lines, while the deep tint from Johnson Window Films increases the mystique of this icon.

Inside, a set of vintage 1963 Chevrolet Impala SS bucket seats, a matching center console and shifter add to the aura of the era captured by the Winged Express. Accented with chrome trim, the seats are swathed in luxurious leather from artisans at Katzkin, complemented by an interior trimmed in matching fabrics and and carpeting by Auto Custom Carpets. The dashboard follows the theme and is accented with Impala bright trim, as are the windshield garnish mouldings. A comprehensive audio and video system by Sony provides the entertainment, and no matter how hot it is outside, the Winged Express will always be cool inside thanks to a Vintage Air Performance Air Conditioning System.

Adding to the performance flavor of the Winged Express are a pair of 4 inch Magnaflow Performance polished stainless steel exhaust tips that exit under the rear valence. Backing up the tips is a complete Magnaflow MagnaPack high performance dual exhaust system. Not only does it look great, but the throaty rumble adds to the character of the vehicle.

The Winged Express accelerates us back to a time when life was less complicated. The pace may have been fast but the consequences were more benign. We cruised the drive-in, stopping to load up on hamburgers and fries, in a time when we could work off the calories with our sheer exuberance.

While reminiscing is great fun, the powertrain and chassis of the Winged Express is pure 21st century G-Machine. Under the hood is a 750 horsepower Kenne Bell Supercharged and Intercooled Chevrolet LS2 engine built by Turn Key Engine Supply. Backing up the supercharged engine is a bullet proof transmission package by Keisler Engineering that consists of a new 6 speed Tremec, the high tech marvel that harnesses the power of the engine effectively and efficiently, with the kind of stamina it takes to survive countless speed shifts. Those who relish the act of driving, of manually releasing the horsepower at the optimum

moment, who learned early how to listen to the song of the engine and carry that tune, will thrive in the cockpit of the Winged Express. With the addition of a Centerforce clutch, the Winged Express stretches out in long strides, covering mile after mile of endless highway.

As low as the stance of the Chevrolet Winged Express is, it can be even be lowered to the max, thanks to an Air Ride Technologies Shock Wave suspension system. Complementing this incredible suspension are Hotchkis Performance Sport Sway Bars, a set of 20 inch MC2 Custom Billet Wheels and BFGoodrich low profile directional tires. The appearance is nothing less than spectacular, in addition to offering the kind of smooth ride and great handling essential for modern high speed motoring. Filling up the open areas between the spokes on the wheels is a Stainless Steel Brakes Corp. Force-10 Tri Power 8-piston caliper system that also feature 15-inch slotted and ventilated rotors that look great and insure high speed stops.

The Chevrolet Winged Express revives the power and strength of the late 1950’s, a time before the concept of "less is more" reduced the American auto industry to generic, appliance like front wheel drive compact cars.

The Winged Express is the absolute antithesis of these seemingly nameless, faceless commodity vehicles. The Winged Express beckons you to pack your bags, fill up a large cooler with your favorite refreshments and get ready to "See the USA in Your Chevrolet."

The 1959 Chevrolet Winged Express is a perfect expression of the elegant excesses of the ‘50’s. It makes no pretense or excuses for what it is. One thing is sure; The Winged Express isn’t politically correct. Rather, it’s brash and arrogant, confident and ambitious, like the generation of Americans that inspired it and those that appreciate for what it is today.
